Victoria
Victoria is in the south east of Australia and its capital city Melbourne is considered the cultural and sporting mecca of Australia. The second-smallest, second-most populous and most densely-populated state in Australia, Victoria is synonymous with diversity and discovery.
Spectacular coastlines, wine regions, buzzing cities, picturesque country towns, ski fields, mountain ranges and cultural experiences are just a small selection of what’s on offer in Victoria. The small size and diversity of the state means it is easy to experience the best the state has on offer. With just a short trip out of Melbourne, you can drive the Great Ocean Road, taste the Yarra Valley or explore the Dandenong Ranges. In Melbourne you can sample art and cultural attractions, shopping, restaurants and cafés.
Victoria has a rich Aboriginal history and culture, with evidence of occupation dating back 40,000 years. Today it offers a multitude of Aboriginal experiences you can visit cultural centres, take a tour of national parks, wetlands and wildlife reserves with a traditional owner, explore public and private Aboriginal art galleries or head to a cultural and community event like 'Dreamtime at the G' in Melbourne.
The Budj Bim Cultural Landscape is also found Victoria and has formally been recognised on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is the only Australian World Heritage Site listed solely for its Aboriginal cultural value and features the earliest living example of aquaculture in the world.
